November 1, 2013

Dear Plaza Families,

It is once again Movember/November.  Over the last two years, the men of Plaza have grown their facial hair in support of Prostate Cancer research and to assist our families in need during Super Storm Sandy.  This year, we want to give back to the women in our lives.  All men, including Plaza staff, dads, stepdads, uncles, grandfathers, guardians, cousins, role models, and caretakers are invited to join us.

All proceeds raised will be donated 50/50 to the following charities:  Susan G. Komen and Go Red for Women. On November 11-14 and 18-22, students will be able to vote for $1, maybe giving up snack for a day or just by bringing in some change from the house.  What are they voting for?  We will assemble a list of participating men.  From that list, they can vote for which man they would like to see spend a day with their facial hair dyed half pink and half red.

On Tuesday, November 26, we will draw a vote from all of the votes during an assembly at school.  Obviously, the more times a particular man is voted for, the higher the chance his name is drawn.  I’m feeling particularly vulnerable.  However, if a participating man other than staff is chosen, we hope you will be able to make yourself available for an hour on Wednesday to “tour” our classes with your dyed beard.

Student Council will be in charge of collecting money and votes on the 8 days identified above.  In addition, here are some ways we hope to raise money:

·         Teachers will be given the option to donate $10 in exchange for casual wear November 25-27 (before Thanksgiving - Monday will be a wear Pink day and Tuesday will be a wear Red day for all kids and staff).

·         All Plaza family members are more than welcome to donate to whichever cause they would like.  Please, CASH ONLY.  It becomes very difficult to run charity fundraising through other organizations (i.e. Student Council or PTA).

·         Men growing their face can always look for financial support in their own places of work or social networking.

One way or another, we hope that you join our cause.  If you wish to have your name added to our

“Growing Team” for voting, please fill out the slip below and return it by Wednesday, November 5th.

___________ I am willing to grow my face hair for a great cause and if need be, dye it pink and red for the world to see.  (**Note, the Herald will be notified J)
